Rabbi Dovid Bendory

About the Author

Rabbi Dovid Bendory is the founder and executive director of Pidyon, a Torah-based educational organization dedicated to infusing Jewish souls with spirituality and meaning. He currently teaches The Kosher Kitchen and Hilchos Pesach for the Shema Yisrael Torah Network, weekly classes in Sefer HaChinuch and Jewish Philosophy, and a daily halacha at the Wall Street Synagogue in downtown Manhattan. Rav Dovid has previously taught Talmud, Hebrew, Tefilla (Prayer), Kashrus, Shabbos, and Jewish History.

Rav Dovid has semicha in Issur v'Heter (Kashrus) from Rabbi Daniel Channen, Rav Zalman Nechimia Goldberg (Av Beis Din Yerushalayim), and Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz (Av Beis Din D'America), in Hilchos Shabbos from Rav Dovid Ostroff and Rav Zalman Nechimia Goldberg, and in Hilchos Aveilus from Rav Yitzchak Tzvi Oshinsky (Av Beis Din Haifa). Rav Dovid is a member of the Young Israel Council of Rabbis and the Agudas HaRabbonim / Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada.

Renowned for his dynamic and inspirational teaching, Rav Dovid's classes and seminars are enjoyed by Jews of various backgrounds and levels of observance. For those not yet Torah observant, he offers gentle guidance toward Torah and mitzvot; for those already observant, he offers inspiring leadership and practical halachic advice. His approach to education and outreach is simple: if introduced to the beauty and truth of Torah, Jews will strive to acquire Torah on their own. His role as rabbi is simply to serve as a guide on the path of spiritual development.

Rav Dovid and the Kosher Kitchen rabbinical staff at Shema Yisrael have helped hundreds of Jews from all over the world learn to keep kosher properly, leading them step-by-step through the process of kashering their kitchens, toiveling their keilim, and ensuring that the foods they purchase and eat are strictly kosher. Rav Dovid has worked with Jews from more than a dozen different countries on every continent except Antarctica. (If you know of any Jews located in Antarctica, please get them in touch with Rav Dovid so he can work with them as well!)

Rav Dovid is a member of JewishGen, the largest Jewish Genealogical organization in America. He has traced his family history back seven generations to the late 1700s and has traced his semicha back through 130 rabbis to Moshe Rabbeinu.

For his parnassa, Rav Dovid is a financial strategist at a bank in New York. He has never been paid for his work as a rabbi. All donations received for such work are used to fund his rabbinic efforts — including his classes, seminars, lectures, and this web site. If you would like to support Rav Dovid's teaching, please consider a donation to Pidyon, an organization dedicated to redeeming the spiritual captives of our time.

Rav Dovid is a member of Congregation Etz Chaim (Rabbi Shlomo Krupka, Mora d'Atra). He lives in Livingston, NJ with his wife and three children.
